February 2005 President's Message
Sheila Stanford
Dear Colleagues,
Last week, the members of the Chapter’s Board of Directors participated in a “mini-retreat”, led by Michael Washburn and Linda Hartley (past and current Vice-Presidents for Governance), with help from the members of the Governance Committee. All of these folks have the thanks of a grateful Board for their hard work!
In just five hours, we covered a great deal of territory, ranging from public relations to improved marketing of Chapter events to the need to make better use of the internet to facilitate opportunities for networking and communication among members.
No matter the subject, one of the overarching themes was time—or, rather, the lack of it—and the Chapter’s need to recognize that most Development professionals must justify time spent on professional development. Additional major themes of the “mini-retreat” included staying true to the Chapter’s mission and core values, AFP ethical principles and service to the profession.
As you may be aware because you took it yourself, the Chapter also recently undertook an internet-based survey of its members and other Development professionals. At this writing, the responses and major themes are being analyzed and will be reported to you (probably in the pages of this e-newsletter) in short order. To all who participated in the survey, thank you for helping with this vital undertaking.
And to all the Chapter Board members who participated in the “mini-retreat”, thank you for contributing eight of your own precious hours to help set the strategic direction for the Chapter. It was truly time well-spent!
With best regards,

Sheila Stanford
