August 2004 President's Message
Sheila Stanford
Dear Colleagues,
Congratulations to everyone who had the good sense to attend on June Baltimore’s Inner Harbor was the very pleasant scene for the July 2004 meeting of the national AFP Board of Directors. As guests, Pat Moran (GNY Senior Vice President), Myles Amend (General Chair for Fund Raising Day 2005) and I represented the Greater New York Chapter, while Phil Schumacher (former Vice- Chair of Member Services for AFP) reported on the process and completion of his Task Force’s work with the GNY Board.
Today, I am happy to report that, between the national organization and the chapter, spirits are improved and both boards are moving forward with new people involved on both sides. Most important, at the conclusion of a process that began with Colette Murray’s letter to all chapter members, peer-to-peer communication has been established between the two boards. It is the hope of the GNY board that effective communication will continue between the two organizations.
One of the little marvels to come out of this process is the “Chapter Profile” developed by our Vice President for Governance, Michael Washburn. As I mentioned in my previous column, we’ve had the Profile posted on the chapter’s website. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet, I hope you will take a few minutes now to review it and see just how many advantages and opportunities for professional advancement you enjoy as a GNY AFP member.
With best wishes for the rest of your summer,

Sheila Stanford
