October 2006 President's Message

 Dear Colleagues,
As I write this message for the October edition of our chapter’s e-newsletter, I am currently serving as a juror in New York State Criminal Court. I was selected on September 5 and the case will continue into early October. So my message will be brief.
I hope you will join the Board of Directors for our chapter’s annual luncheon meeting on Monday, October 16, at noon at the Princeton Club, 15 West 43rd Street. The annual luncheon is dedicated to the memory of Ralph Chamberlain, a well known businessman and philanthropist, who died in July 1999. He dedicated his life to philanthropy, education, health and arts programs.
By attending the luncheon, you will among the first to hear the latest findings for the upcoming edition of the Foundation
Center’s Guide to Proposal Writing. The author and fundraising consultant, Jane Geever, has written successful proposals for the past 30 years. At the luncheon, she will give us a sneak preview of her findings for the 2007 edition. The proposal writing guide is based on interviews with grantmakers and provides insight into the decision-making process.
We will take a few minutes at the annual meeting to elect the Board of Directors for 2007. Please come out to meet the board of directors and volunteers for the chapter. We also take this opportunity to thank the many AFP members who volunteer for our chapter in dozens of programs and services for the fundraising community. Please join me on October 16 to thank those individuals who volunteer for the Greater New York Chapter.
Please take a few minutes to review the Greater New York Chapter’s calendar of events. There are interesting educational and networking events that I hope will be interesting to you and your colleagues.
