January 2007 President's Message
Patricia Moran
Dear Colleagues,
Happy New Year. I wish you the best for 2007! The Greater New York Chapter has an exciting calendar of events for educational programs for the year. I encourage
you to review our offerings and schedule one or more courses for your professional development. In addition to learning the “best practices” in fundraising from volunteer experts, AFP educational programs are also a great opportunity to network with other fundraisers.
In the spring, our chapter will launch a new website that will be provide better services to our members and fundraisers in the Greater New York Chapter area. For example, people will be able to register directly on the website for all chapter activities and pay on-line. Please look for additional information in our February newsletter.
Mark your calendar for June 14 and plan to attend the 28th annual Fundraising Day in New York (FRDNY 07). This is the largest one-day fundraising conference in the United States. The FRDNY organizers rely on the evaluations of last year’s attendees to add new and exciting programs to the FRDNY 07.
You can still benefit from FRDNY 06. We post the presentation notes from many of the track sessions. These powerpoint presentations will only be available for a few more weeks so visit (www.nycafp.org) to download your copy of exciting programs like “Branding Toward Bigger Gifts” presented by Sarah Durham, Principal and Founder, Big Duck and “Ranking Billionaires: How Forbes Calculates the Fortunes of the Mega Rich” presented by Luisa Kroll and Matthew Miller from Forbes Magazine.
Ethical standards and principles are the foundation for maintaining public trust, for every AFP member. As you begin filling in your calendar for 2007, please take some time to review AFP’s guidelines, codes and standards for ethical fundraising. You can find the ethical guidelines and the donor bill of rights on the AFP website at www.nycafp.org.
Best wishes for 2007. I look forward to seeing you at one or more AFP events this year.
