May 2007 President's Message
Patricia A. Moran, CFRE
Dear Colleagues,
AFP Wants You!
Each summer the nomination committee of the Board of Directors begins the nomination process to identify new candidates for the Board. There are two important requirements for joining the board: membership in AFP; and serving as a volunteer on one or more committees or programs of the Greater New York Chapter.
The Board of Directors manages the educational and networking events of the Greater New York Chapter of AFP. Each year we provide education programs to thousands of AFP members and non-members who are development professionals in nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater New York area. The board is also responsible for two hallmark programs of our Chapter, Fundraising Day in New York (FRDNY) and National Philanthropy Day (NPD). FRDNY is now in its 28th year as the largest one-day conference on development. AFP chapters in the US and Canada use our conference as a model for their conference. If you haven’t registered for FRDNY please log on now to www.frdny.org to enjoy an excellent educational and networking experience.
The Chapter also sponsors NPD every Fall to honor philanthropists from a wide range of nonprofit organizations in the Greater New York area. NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions that individuals and organizations make to countless causes and missions. Please mark your calendar now for our NPD luncheon on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Rainbow Room. We look forward to seeing you there!
In addition to educational programs, board members and volunteers are involved in the strategic direction for our Chapter—managing the financial resources of the Chapter, promoting our profession and providing leadership for ethical fundraising practices.
The Greater New York Chapter needs YOU as a volunteer!
Please go to the chapter’s website: www.nycafp.org and sign up today to be a volunteer. Check out the committees that need your help: communications, governance and public policy, member services, welcoming committee, National Philanthropy Day and Fundraising Day in New York. If you are currently a volunteer, please consider serving as a board member. We encourage self-nomination. All you need do is send us an email: nycafp@nycafp.org to let our nomination committee know that you are interested in serving as a board member.
I look forward to seeing you at Fundraising Day in New York on June 14!
