Speaker addressing the more than 1800 FRDNY attendees.
More than 1,800 fundraising professionals, volunteer board members, funders and other leaders in our industry representing organizations from around the country gathered at the New York Marriott Marquis on June 14th to mark the 28th Annual Fund Raising Day in New York. The number of registrants ensured that this important event sponsored by the AFP, Greater New York Chapter can maintain its position as the Largest One-Day Conference on Philanthropy in the nation.
Not only is FRDNY the largest one-day conference, it’s the best! Fund Raising Day in New York 2007 moved along smoothly from start to finish due to the efforts of Operations Co-Chairs Carrie Schindele and Stephanie Straffi; Arrangements Co-Chairs Penny Stoil, Pat DeSibio and Vivian Holmes; Treasurer Dianne Armstrong, CFRE; Conference Manager Eileen Dengler; AFP Greater New York Chapter President Patricia Moran, CFRE, and Chapter Managers Sharon Epstein and Fran Morris along with the members of the FRDNY Committee and more than 100 volunteers.
A spectacular Program Committee led by Vice Chairs Jane O’Connell, Arlene Swartz and Stephanie Thomas did more than re-vamp and upgrade favorite Tracks including Fundamentals, Research, Foundation and Corporate Giving, Special Events, Major Gifts, Career Development, Direct Mail and Internet & Technology, they listened to you and responded with even more sessions and speakers to share best practices in Advanced Management, Consulting and Senior Level Professional Development!
Eva D. Gaither, The Salvation Army; Pat Moran, President, AFP, Greater NY Chapter; Commissioner Israel L. Gaither, FRDNY 2007 Luncehon Speaker, National Commander, The Salvation Army; and Peggy Mathieu, Chair, FRDNY 2007
As if that were not enough, the Committee masterminded Workshops that addressed every conceivable problem and hidden opportunity—while Track Sessions went on, attendees visited the Career Services for mentoring, resume review and career counseling. Job seekers and organizations in search of candidates were able to find one another through the Jobs Bank. The Exhibit Hall was abuzz with vendors demonstrating their products and services while many attendees took advantage of the popular Internet Café. Nineteen recipients of the coveted Maurice Gurin Scholarships truly had a field day of learning and networking.
The highlight of the Day was Luncheon Keynote Speaker Commissioner Israel L. Gaither, National Commander of The Salvation Army in the United States of America. Commissioner Gaither, who is listed among the San Francisco Chronicle’s 10 Best Communicators in 2006, addressed a riveted audience on their capacity to be the “dream makers” for those we serve.
Fund Raising Day in New York 2007 was a great success and many thanks are extended to Lead Sponsor—Changing Our World, Inc. (COW)—a professional service company that is generous in its financial support and commitment to our industry. COW truly led the way for many others to underwrite programs and activities associated with the event.
Many thanks again to all who participated and made this Day such a great success! Not to rest on any laurels, the Fund Raising Day in New York Committee is already planning for the 29th Annual event—it will take place again at the New York Marriott Marquis on Friday, June 13, 2008! Stay tuned for details and opportunities to register!
