27th Annual Fundraising Day in New York

by Myles Amend

On June 23rd, nearly 1900 fundraising and philanthropic professionals gathered at the New York Marriott Marquis for the Greater New York Chapter’s 27th annual Fundraising Day in New York. Attendees represented organizations from twenty-five states and every field within the not-for-profit sector. Fundraising Day in New York continues to be the largest one day conference on fundraising and philanthropy in the world and this year’s conference packed more into the day than ever before.

Participants listen attentively during a filled to capacity track session.

In addition to longstanding favorites like the Fundamentals, Research, Foundation Giving, and Corporate Giving tracks, new offerings especially geared to senior-level professionals were added and additional, handson workshop sessions were provided. Many of the tracks offered four full sessions this year and a joint Foundation and Corporate roundtable session proved to be extremely popular. The sold-out exhibit hall provided attendees with a wealth of vendors and service providers and, as always, the hall was the center of networking throughout the day. The highlight of the conference was the keynote presentation by Gretchen Dykstra, former president of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, whose presentation demonstrated for all of us that passion for an organization’s mission, along with skill, energy, and a great sense of humor, is the key to success and fulfillment in our profession.

Patricia Moran, AFP Greater NY Chapter President, Gretchen Dykstra, FRDNY 2006 Luncheon Keynote Speaker and Myles B. Amend, Chair, FRDNY 2006.

If you missed FRDNY this year, plan to be with us next June: the committee is already at work on next year’s conference—we may even have a few more new surprises for you!
