GNY AFP Celebrates the Silver Anniversary Fund Raising Day in New York
On June 25th, colleagues from New York City, across the nation and beyond our borders will gather for the nation’s largest one-day conference on philanthropy. This year, the event takes on an added glow as the Silver Anniversary of Fund Raising Day is celebrated.
Every conference has been memorable. We took a few moments to look back on highlights from 24 years of excellence.
1980 Recognizing that New York fundraising professionals needed an opportunity to meet and to share best ideas, George Holloway and the leadership of the Greater New York Chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals hold the inaugural Fund Raising Day in New York at the Sheraton Center. The first conference is attended by 475 fundraisers and features four education tracks.
1989 Fund Raising Day celebrates its 10th Anniversary. The conference now spans six educational tracks, offers 10 workshops and 15 roundtables. Over 1,000 fundraising professionals attend sessions spread between four floors of the New York Marriott Marquis.
1993 A Fund Raising Day that will live in infamy as the Conference endures a last minute move to the Jacob Javits Center. Over 1,700 participants make their way to the very West Side of Manhattan as attendance continues to grow annually.
1995 Fund Raising Day begins a long partnership with the New York Marriott Marquis. The event brings fundraisers from 26 states and five nations to one of New York’s premier conference facilities to hear over 30 presentations.
1999 At 20 years of age, Fund Raising Day shows no signs of slowing. This year’s conference features seven educational tracks, 15 workshops and 25 roundtables. Attendance surpasses 2,100 attendees and our luncheon program is highlighted by an energetic and still talked about keynote address by Dr. Lorraine Monroe.
2002 Only ten months after the tragic events of September 11, over 2,000 fundraising professionals make it a priority to attend Fund Raising Day in New York to share best practices for raising money in uncertain times.
2004 Featuring a keynote address by the Hon. Edward I. Koch, former Mayor of New York City, we will gather to celebrate 25 years of excellence. Join us as we write another chapter in the long and illustrious history of this terrific conference.
